Who is at Risk

Though repetitive strain injuries (RSIs) are not only experienced by people working with computers, this group certainly exhibits the greatest prevalence due to the massive rise in computer use over the past 20 years.


How does RSI affect UK Industry?*


  1 in 50 of all workers in the U.K. have reported an RSI related illness.

  Of those affected, each person took an average of 18.3 days off in that time

  Everyday, six people in the U.K. leave their jobs due to an RSI condition.

  It has been estimated that the cost to U.K. industry from RSI could be up to £20 billion annually.



RSI affects many groups of working people in a wide variety of occupations, including;


  computer operators

  laboratory technicians

  musicians

  those in the construction industry and factory workers

According to the CSP, the health and social work sector has replaced manufacturing as the industry with the highest number of work related upper limb disorders in the UK, with a staggering 1 in 100 employees reporting such an illness in 2003/4.
